Its Easy to Request a Quotation for Insul-Vest Insulating Blankets
In order to provide you a quotation for Insul-Vest blankets, we need the barrel dimensions as well as some general information about your company, the machine and its operation. Simply click on Barrel Measurement Form in the menu or at the bottom of this page, complete it and submit it to us. Please complete a separate Form for each machine.
How to Measure for Insul-Vest Blankets
CAUTION: To avoid potential injury, it is recommended that the power supply to the machine be locked out and the barrel allowed to fully cool down before measurements are taken.
In order to design your Insul-Vest Blankets, we need two basic dimensions, 1) the barrel circumference over the heaters and 2) the width of each barrel section to be covered by a blanket.
1. Measure the Circumference of the barrel to the nearest 1/4” (5 mm) using a measuring tape. Be sure to measure OVER the heater band electrical terminals or junction box (J-box) to get the maximum dimension the blankets must cover.
2. Measure the width of each barrel “Section” to the nearest 1/8” (3 mm).
What is a barrel “Section”? A barrel section is the unobstructed distance along the barrel’s surface where one blanket can be installed. The section closest to the “feed” end of the barrel is always designated as Section 1. The width of Section 1 is measured from the end of the barrel to the first thermocouple (or other obstruction). Section 2 is between the first T/C or obstruction and the second, and so on. Thermocouples (T/C’s) are the most common type of obstruction. However, other sensors, vents, bolts and support brackets must also be considered.
NOTE: If a barrel Section is measured between two thermocouples, you can use a center-to-center measurement. The blankets will ‘flex’ around the T/C’s.
3. If the barrel has a larger diameter “head” area in the front, measure its circumference and enter it in the third to last space near the bottom of the form. If the “head” section has a T/C located in it, measure from the center of the T/C to each end of the section and record the dimensions in the last two spaces on the form as indicated. If there is no T/C, just measure the full width of the head and enter it in the last space.
